Everything KGM Paving does, in one place — interlocking paving, tarring and asphalt, retaining and boundary walls, patios and braai stands, and landscaping, plus the fencing, drainage and groundworks that go around them.
Most contractors do one surface and subcontract the rest. We lay interlocking pavers and we lay asphalt — and we build the retaining walls, run the drainage and prepare the ground underneath both. One crew carries the site from bare earth to the finished surface, so the levels, the falls and the drainage are designed together instead of patched around each other.
A driveway that sinks in two years was never cheap — it was just quick. What decides how long paving lasts is the part nobody sees: the excavation, the fill, the compaction and the falls. We get that right before a single paver goes down.
From there we lay interlocking pavers to suit the property — herringbone, checkerboard or running bond, in charcoal, grey, red and burgundy — cutting and edging cleanly around kerbs, walls, beds and existing structures, then compacting and sanding the joints so the surface locks up properly.
Tarring is the other half of what we do, and we do it with our own crew rather than handing it to someone else. That means the same people who set your levels and dug your drainage are the ones laying the asphalt over it.
Driveways, access roads, parking areas and hardstands — we clear and shape the ground, build and compact the base, prime it, then lay and roll the asphalt to a smooth, even finish that sheds water instead of holding it.
A retaining wall is a structure, not a decoration. On a Durban slope it is the thing standing between your driveway and the bottom of the garden, so it gets a proper trench, a proper footing and proper drainage behind it before the first block is set.
We build Loffelstein-style and precast block retaining walls to suit the slope and the load, and we build and finish boundary walls — supplied and installed — where a property needs securing rather than terracing.
A patio is paving with a different job to do. It has to sit flat enough for furniture, fall away from the house so rain runs off instead of pooling at the door, and tie into whatever is already there — the lawn, the steps, the pool surround.
We lay paved patios and entertainment areas, build in braai stands, and set the drainage into the surface rather than leaving it to find its own way out.
Hard surfaces always leave edges — the strip between the driveway and the fence, the bare ground where the excavator turned, the lawn that got cut into. Landscaping is how a job stops looking like a building site.
We lay lawn and turf, shape and plant beds, and finish the ground around the paving, walls and drainage we have just put in, so the whole space reads as one piece of work rather than a surface dropped into a yard.
These rarely get booked on their own — they get booked because a driveway needs securing, draining or digging out first. We handle them in-house so nothing waits on another contractor.
Trenching for a drainage channel, digging a wall footing, cutting a level into a slope — this is the stage that decides whether the driveway laid over it is still flat in five years. We do it with our own crew and our own plant, so nothing on site waits on somebody else's schedule.
Clearvu and security mesh fencing, and automated gates — fitted once the surface and the boundary are set, so the levels and the swing clear properly.
Trenches, precast channels and sumps. Water is what destroys paving and tar, so getting it off the surface and away from the house is part of the job, not an add-on.
Clearing, excavation, levelling, fill and compaction — the stage that decides whether everything laid on top of it lasts or moves.
We come out to the property, walk the area with you, check the levels and where the water goes, and give you an honest price for the job as it actually is. Free, no obligation.
Clear, excavate, fill, level and compact. Retaining walls and drainage go in at this stage, before anything is laid over them.
Pavers or asphalt, laid by our own crew to the falls we set at prep. You get progress updates on WhatsApp while it runs.
Joints sanded, edges finished, rubble and offcuts taken away. You get the space back ready to use, not a work site.
The full list — if it goes on the ground, holds the ground back or drains it, it's on here.
